If it doesn't work then, the HD inside is kaput. now, how to partition it into two logical drives ? Allocate it a drive letter higher than M, I used S for seagate, worked a treat for me. I've now got 2 external drives (from different companies, different ages etc) that are not even seen by windoze.

What are the chances, it is brand new! They can only access drives formatted with the older FAT32 file system. Am I missing a step somewhere? I tried numerous other procedures but to no avail. You'll want a 3.5″ enclosure that supports PATA/IDE.
I have a new PC built from scratch with 3 drives. One Partition recognized with a letter name etc, I would guess, because you can use that. It doesn't matter which of the three USB ports I use the device is not recognized as it should be according to your instructions regarding disc management.
