almost forgot.. Get hold of a disk utility which allows you to examine the SMART data (lots of free ones) and see what the drive's been up to. Now I just got to deal with command line stuff... Mine went from working fine to dead in 5 minutes.
To resolve this noise, connect the drive with both of the USB connectors (if possible), or if your drive only has one connector, try connecting it to other USB ports on so i gues i need to open the case and leave it open until it happens again and then try to feel the disks.
