The "read only" attribute does not stay unset. Today I went back to the XP machine and created a new folder in OE with just the missing information in it plus one day earlier as a safety margin. That's the address book. I have tried following the instructions in this article to the letter, but it doesn't work.

Thanks Leo for the reply, I look forward to another idea. All inbox emails have sucessfully imported. I also have windows xp home edition and I want to transfer files from one computer to another. I did salvage a good hard drive from it, which was drive C: on that old computer running OE5.
