I got and upgrade for Windows 7 Professional 32 bit edition when it first came out. Windows 7 Won't Find Updates Just used the Windows downloader to download SP3 and my comp boots for about 5 seconds then asks to start safe mode.  None of the options work.. Thank you so much Report jennifer1969- Nov 1, 2012 at 03:25 PM i tried the steps above, but after typing "del pending.xml" the computer says it can not find that file, f8 didnt seem like it was doing anything..but when it restarted again safe mode worked..(i was reapeatly pressing althrough boot) i couldnt find that file in my registry,  but  c:\windows\system32\drivers\ intelppm.sys Hoping to simplify the update process on a fresh install, in May 2016 Microsoft released what has been dubbed the "Convenience Rollup," encapsulating many Windows 7 updates that came after the release check my blog Did the rest of the kb's by doing the same routine, then win update was working again [yay!!] and normal hot restarts were working normally.

FOR PRESIDENT !! Nothing I have tried has worked. I blame microsoft for sending an incomplete or pretty f***ed update, as I also know of a friend whose laptop did exactly the same, she had a full backup though so But SP1 for Windows 7 is unlike any previous service pack in one significant way: it’s almost a non-event.

I read your step by step instructions & all the comments but I'm a bit confused, is this fix if you're installing Windows 7? Another way in which you can overcome problems with Windows Update is to look beyond that particular service.
